Jacksonville Jaguars 21, Green Bay Packers 13

The Jaguars looked pretty sharp last night against the Packers.  Byron Leftwich was a little off last night as he completed 6 of 16 passes for 67 yards.  David Garrard was sharp passing the football as he completed 6 of 7 passes for 97 yards with 1 TD pass.  Quinn Gray played on the same day his father died and he completed 3 of 5 passes for 44 yards.  D.D. Terry led the Jags in rushing as he carried the ball 5 times for 29 yards (5.8 ypc) and he also caught a 29 yard pass.  Maurice Jones-Drew (7 car, 21 yards) and Fred Taylor (3 car, 19 yards) both looked sharp in their time on the field. LaBrandon Toefield had another nice game to showcase him to opposing teams.  He carried the football 5 times for 14 yards (2.8 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 3 passes for 32 yards.  TE George Wrighster had a solid game as he caught 2 passes for 33 yards with a TD.  The Jaguars finished up the game rushing for 104 yards on 26 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 28 passes for 208 yards.

The defense looked pretty tough and physical as always for the Jaguars.  They held the Packers to 84 yards rushing on 25 carries (3.4 ypc).  They had some problems defending the pass as the Packers completed 22 of 32 passes for 177 yards.  2nd year linebacker Brian Iwuh sealed the game with an interception that he returned 24 yards for a TD in the 4th quarter.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign guard Tutan Reyes

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, General by dawgpounded on Thursday 23 August 2007 at 9:48 am

With recent injuries to the offensive line the Jaguars have decided to sign Tutan Reyes to a 1-year contract.  Reyes played in 6 games (all starts) for the Buffalo Bills in 2006.  The 6′3″, 310 pound lineman has played in 37 games (34 starts) over his 7-year NFL career.  Look for Reyes to not only make the Jaguars roster but to start some games early in the season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars release Tim Couch

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, General by dawgpounded on Wednesday 22 August 2007 at 7:28 am

The Jaguars have decided to release Tim Couch.  He didn’t get much of a chance with the Jaguars as he only played in 1 game and he completed 2 of 4 passes for 11 yards in the pre-season.  The Jags just seemed to like undrafted rookie Lester Ricard better than Couch at this time.

Jacksonville Jaguars 31, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19

Blogged under The Pre-Season, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by dawgpounded on Monday 20 August 2007 at 3:33 pm

The Jaguars pushed the Bucs around on Saturday Night.  Byron Leftwich had a decent game completing 6 of 12 passes for 81 yards.  David Garrard was the star of the show on Saturday Night though as he completed 11 of 14 passes for 129 yards and he also carried the ball 3 times for 9 yards (3.0 ypc) with a TD run.  Lester Ricard finished up the game completing the only pass he attempted for 21 yards.  Undrafted rookie D.D. Terry from Sam Houston State has no realistic shot of making the Jaguars opening day lineup but that didn’t stop him from rushing for 49 yards on 10 carries (4.9 ypc) Saturday Night.  The Jags showcased LeBrandon Toefield for a trade and he looked good carrying the football 5 times for 29 yards (5.8 ypc) and a TD.  Greg Jones (5 car, 25 yards) and Alvin Pearman (6 car, 20 yards, TD) both looked good in their battle to be the #3 RB for the Jags this season.  Fred Taylor got his work in carrying the ball 6 times for 16 yards (2.7 ypc) with a TD run.  Charles Sharon led the way for the Jags with 3 grabs for 54 yards (18.0 avg) as he is moving up the Jags’ depth chart quickly.  RB Maurice Jones-Drew didn’t run the football but he was busy as he caught 2 passes for 47 yards (23.5 avg).  Rookie John Broussard (2 rec, 29 yards) and Ernest Wilford (3 rec, 28 yards) also had decent games.  The Jaguars finished up with 154 yards rushing on 37 carries (4.2 ypc) and they completed 18 of 27 passes for 223 yards.

The Jags defense didn’t play as well as usual as they allowed the Bucs to rush for 114 yards on 24 carries (4.8 ypc) on Saturday Night.  The Bucs also completed 22 of 30 passes for 208 yards.  The Jags will likely tighten up the D more as the season gets closer to starting.

The Jacksonville Jaguars might throw to the TEs more in 2007

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by dawgpounded on Thursday 16 August 2007 at 10:48 am

The QBs of the Jaguars might turn their eyes more to the tight ends in 2007 when throwing the football.  The Jags are hoping that Mercedes Lewis will have a big 2nd season and they also brought in pass catching TE Jermaine Wiggins to battle for catches.  Lewis had a rough rookie season as he played in 15 games (3 starts) and he only caught 13 passes for 126 yards (9.7 avg) with 1 TD.  Look for him to either improve on those numbers or be standing on the sideline.

George Wrighster is back for another season and that’s a good thing based on his play last season.  He played in 16 games (10 starts) last season for the Jaguars and he caught 39 passes for 353 yards (9.1 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Wrighster has now played in 51 games (20 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 75 passes for 692 yards (9.2 avg) with 8 TD grabs.

The Jaguars signed free agent Jermaine Wiggins to battle Lewis and Wrighster for playing time and he has had the best NFL career to date of that bunch.  He played in 16 games (3 starts) last season for the Vikings and he caught 46 passes for 386 yards (8.4 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He’s a possession receiver who catches anything near his hands but he lacks the speed to get downfield.  He has now played in 107 games (44 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 236 passes for 2,141 yards (9.1 avg) with 14 TD grabs.
