The Jaguars have signed veteran CB Aaron Glenn to a 1-year contract and they have released G Tutan Reyes to make room on the roster for him.  Glenn played in all 16 games last season for the Dallas Cowboys and he made 22 tackles, defensed 7 passes and had 1 interception.  Glenn has now played in 196 NFL games in his career and he has made 616 tackles, has defensed 162 passes, has 40 interceptions (5 returned for TDs), had 1 sack and forced 5 fumbles.  The Jags will likely use Glenn as their nickel back this season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars release QB Byron Leftwich

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, General by dawgpounded on Wednesday 5 September 2007 at 12:07 am

The Jaguars shocked everyone and released Byron Leftwich.  Leftwich probably was the victim of the outstanding pre-seasons that David Garrard and Quinn Gray turned in for the Jags.  Leftwich was only average this pre-season as he completed 19 of 38 passes (50%) for 226 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs (77.3 QB Rating).  David Garrard has been named the starting QB for the Jags this season.  He completed 36 of 47 passes (76.6%) for 456 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs (113.4 QB Rating).  He also ran the football 5 times for 20 yards (4.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Quinn Gray completed 20 of 27 (74.1%) passes for 216 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs (121.8 QB Rating).

The Jacksonville Jaguars sign D.D. Terry and Charles Sharon to the practice squad

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by dawgpounded on Tuesday 4 September 2007 at 11:57 pm

The Jaguars have signed RB D.D. Terry and WR Charles Sharon to the practice squad.  It’s no surprise that the Jags wanted to hold onto these two guys after how they played in the pre-season.  Terry carried the football 17 times for 82 yards (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 29 yards.  Sharon was also outstanding in the pre-season as he caught 10 passes for 138 yards (13.8 avg).  Look for the Jags to activate these guys at some point this season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars took the fight to the Redskins on Thursday Night beating them on both sides of the football.  David Garrard was sharp completing 7 of 10 passes for 77 yards.  Quinn Gray finished up the game with an outstanding effort as he completed 17 of 22 passes for 172 yards with 2 TDs.  LeBrandon Toefield was the workhorse in the running game with 19 carries for 84 yards (4.4 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Alvin Pearman also got his work in carrying the football 9 times for 21 yards (2.3 ypc).  WRs Reggie Williams (3 rec, 61 yards, TD) and Charles Sharon (4 rec, 51 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Jags.  The Jags held onto the football for an amazing 36:13 of this football game.  The Jags finished up with 101 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.3 ypc) and they completed 24 of 32 passes for 239 yards.

The defense didn’t look good early in the game but they finished strong.  The Redskins finished up the night with 88 yards rushing on 24 carries (3.7 ypc) and they completed 12 of 19 passes for 103 yards.  Linebacker Roy Manning of the Jags picked off a Jordan Palmer pass and returned it 27 yards for a TD.

The Jacksonville Jaguars release 5 players

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injury Reports, General by dawgpounded on Thursday 30 August 2007 at 8:22 am

The Jaguars have released RB D.D. Terry, QB Lester Ricard, RB Derrick Wimbush, S Nick Sorensen and TE Jermaine Wiggins.  D.D. Terry had an excellent pre-season but he was too far down on the depth chart at running back to make the Jaguars roster.  He carried the football 17 times for 82 yards (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 29 yards.  QB Lester Ricard made a good impression on the Jags’ front office but he was found to be expendable when Quinn Gray returned to health.  Ricard completed 7 of 10 passes for 106 yards (104.6 QB Rating) in the pre-season.  RB Derrick Wimbush also was caught in a numbers game but he only carried the football 3 times for -3 yards in the pre-season.  Jermaine Wiggins only caught 1 pass for 1 yard in the pre-season by he was too far behind Mercedes Lewis and George Wrighster to make the team.  Safety Nick Sorensen has been the Jags’ special teams ace the last couple of seasons but he has been passed up by other players.  He finished the pre-season with 5 tackles.
