The Jacksonville Jaguars release Donovin Darius

The Jaguars shockingly released safety Donovin Darius yesterday.  Darius played in 10 games last season and he made 48 tackles and defensed 3 passes.  Darius has been banged up the last two seasons but the Jaguars could have treated one of the best defensive players in team history a little better than they did at the end.  Darius played in 9 seasons for the Jaguars and he made 614 tackles, had 2 sacks, intercepted 14 passes (189 return yards), defensed 35 passes, forced 8 fumbles and recovered 6 fumbles (one returned for a TD).

The Jacksonville Jaguars release CB Ahmad Carroll

Ahmad Carroll was arrested on felony drug and weapons charges over the weekend and the Jaguars decided that they have had enough of him and cut him from the team.  Carroll played in 5 games last season for the Jags and he made 11 tackles, had 1 sack and defensed 3 passes.  The Jags would have liked to keep him for depth reasons, but he’s not worth the headache.

The Jacksonville Jaguars release punter Jason Hanson

When the Jaguars traded up to select punter Adam Podlesh from Maryland you could see the handwriting on the wall concerning the future of Jason Hanson with the Jags.  Hanson punted in all 16 games last season for the Jaguars and he kicked the ball 72 times for 2,920 yards (40.6 avg) with a net of only 33.4 yards per punt and that is not acceptable.

The Jacksonville Jaguars trade down in the first round with the Denver Broncos

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, General by dawgpounded on Saturday 28 April 2007 at 2:11 pm

The Jacksonville Jaguars did a great job of getting good value out of their first round draft pick.  They traded the #17 pick in the 1st round to the Denver Broncos for the Broncos’ #1 pick (#21), their 3rd rounder (#86) and their 6th rounder (#198).  The Jags did a good job picking up extra picks and they will probably still get one of the players they coveted at #21.
