The Jacksonville Jaguars trade down in the first round with the Denver Broncos

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, Jaguar Headlines, General by dawgpounded on Saturday 28 April 2007 at 2:11 pm

The Jacksonville Jaguars did a great job of getting good value out of their first round draft pick.  They traded the #17 pick in the 1st round to the Denver Broncos for the Broncos’ #1 pick (#21), their 3rd rounder (#86) and their 6th rounder (#198).  The Jags did a good job picking up extra picks and they will probably still get one of the players they coveted at #21.

The Jacksonville Jaguars re-sign a couple of their own players

The Jaguars have re-signed WR Ernest Wilford and QB Quinn Gray.  Wilford played in all 16 games last season for the Jaguars (12 starts) and he caught 36 passes for 524 yards (14.6 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He’s a nice receiver but the Jaguars are waiting for him to take the next step.  Quinn Gray is currently the #3 QB on the Jaguars roster, but I have a feeling that the Jags may trade Byron Leftwich or David Garrard on Draft Day so he may move up the depth chart.  He played in 2 games last season (0 starts) and he completed 13 of 22 (59.1%) passes for 166 yards (82.8 QB Rating).  He also ran the ball 2 times for 26 yards (13.0 avg.) and both of his runs were for touchdowns.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are on the clock………….

I have conducted a complete 7 round draft for every team in the NFL.  If you want to see what I have projected for any other team in the NFL, click on the team name in the right hand margin and go to the team’s Draft Report page if you don’t see the article on the front page of the site.  This was a lot of work so I hope you enjoy it.

The Jaguars are a solid football team and on draft day they will probably be looking for wherever the value on their board takes them.  With that in mind, here is who I think the Jaguars will draft:

1. (17)  Robert Meacham, WR, Tennessee

2. (48)  Tim Crowder, DE, Texas

3. (79)  Doug Free, OT, Northern Illinois

4. (113)  C.J. Gaddis, CB, Clemson

5. (150)  J.D. Nelson, S, Oregon

6. (194)  Marvin White, S, TCU

7. (229)  Le’Ron McClain, FB, Alabama

7. (251)  Matt Trannon, WR, Michigan State

7. (252)  Rondell Biggs, DE, Michigan

The Jaguars are in dire need of a legit WR and Robert Meacham certainly fits that bill.  They got solid value all through the draft if they get this bunch of football players.
