Go Jags

Blogged under General by Raesuperfan on Wednesday 11 October 2006 at 7:02 pm

The Jags had an awesome game on Sunday! They played very well and I love their defense soo much! I’m going to the Eagles/Jags game in three weeks with ten other people, all Eagles fans. I’m the only Jags fan but I couldn’t be more excited! I got a teal feather boa and a gold feather boa! I’m going to be all decked out and it’s going to be awesome. I hope the Jags defense tears up Westbrooks rungame! I am soo excited. It sucks that they have a bye week though. I love watching them play, but I guess they need it. Wooohooo : )

Jaguars sign cornerback

The Jaguars signed former first round pick Ahmad Carroll.  Carroll was cut by the Packers after being toasted repeatedly.  He will likely be included in nickel and dime coverages.

Jaguars lose leading tackler for the season

Linebacker Mike Peterson (torn pectoral muscle) is out for the season.  He is the most un-replaceable player on the Jaguars defense that will surely take a hit.  Peterson was the leading tackler for Jags with 32 tackles.

Jaguars special teams about average

The Jaguars coverage teams are strange….they cover the kick-off well (20.2 yard per return avg) but have problems against the punt, allowing 10.1 yards per punt and a TD.

Josh Scobee has a strong leg, but he’s not very accurate connecting on 9 of 12 FGs and all 13 XPTs.  Punter Chris Hanson is averaging 44.0 yards per punt, 36.0 yards net punt and has pinned 32% of his kicks inside the 20.

The return game is a little unsettled.  Alvin Pearman has returned 8 punts for 78 yards (9.8 avg) and Chad Owens has returned 7 punts for 51 yards (7.3 avg).  Maurice Drew has averaged 25.3 yards per kick-off return, which is great.  Hopefully the Jags don’t replace him due to his expanding role in the offense.

Jaguars punish the Jets 41-0

The Jaguars punched the Jets in the mouth from the first play of the game and never let up.  Byron Leftwich just managed the game, completing 9 of 20 passes for 140 yards and 2 TDs.  Fred Taylor was a horse out there on the field, carrying the ball 21 times for 111 yards (5.3 ypc) and a TD, he also caught a pass for 32 yards.  Maurice Drew carried the ball 13 times for 59 yards (4.5 ypc) and 2 TDs and is starting to look alot like a stronger Warrick Dunn.  WR Reggie Williams keeps improving every week as he caught 4 more passes for 53 yards and a TD.  George Wrighster caught 2 passes for 13 yards and a TD.

The Jags defense had a fun game for themselves on Sunday.  This is probably the most physical defense in the NFL and I’m sure the Jets will be licking their wounds all week long.  DBs Terry Cousin, Brian Williams and Deon Grant all picked-off a pass from Chad Pennington.  The Jets did run the ball ok against the Jags, carrying the ball 34 times for 132 yards (3.9 ypc).  The Jags suffocated the Jets passing attack, allowing them to complete 10 of 18 passes for 45 net yards thru the air.

This was complete Jaguar domination!
