Jaguars maul the Steelers 9-0

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 19 September 2006 at 9:52 am

The Jaguars punched the Steelers in the mouth from the first play until the final gun of the game.  The Jags defense pounded Roethlisberger and got him scared, and Hines Ward developed alligator arms after he took a few wicked hits in the game.  The score doesn’t begin to indicate the beating the Jags apllied to the Steelers.  CB Rashean Mathis had 4 tackles, defensed 2 passes, and intercepted 2 passes that he returned 40 yards.  S Donovin Darius had 6 tackles and LB Mike Peterson had 7 tackles.  The Steelers only had 26 yards rushing and averaged only 1.9 yards per carry.  The Steelers only completed 53.2% of their passes for 127 net yards, and the Jags picked-off 2 passes.

Byron Leftwich completed 26 of 39 passes (66.7%) for 260 yards and a pick-off.  RB Fred Taylor ran the ball 22 times for 92 yards (4.2 ypc) and caught 3 passes for 29 yards.  WR Reggie Williams caught 8 passes for 95 yards (11.9 avg) and Matt Jones caught 6 passes for 73 yards (12.2 avg).

The Jags earned the respect they’ve been looking for by dominating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night.

Jaguars vs. Steelers

Blogged under Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 15 September 2006 at 1:28 am

It seems as if Ben Roethlisberger is going to start this game.  He could be rusty, so look for the Steelers to lean heavily on their running game.  The problem with that is the Jaguars have a very good front 7 on defense, and it could be a rough go for Willie Parker.  The Jaguars did give up 235 yards passing last week to the Cowboys…..but the Jags also had 3 pick-offs so Roethlisberger will have to be careful with the football.

Byron Leftwich led a furious comeback last week with his right arm.  The Jags will throw first to open up running lanes for Fred Taylor.  The whole game for the Jaguars could come down to how well they handle the blitz that the Steelers are sure to bring.  If the Jags pick it up well, they should be very effective throwing the football.

These are two evenly matched teams that will put on a good show for Monday Night Football.
